MARCH ON WASHINGTON
Thousands are expected to march in Washington demanding proof that Obama is a native born citizen. According to the Constitution to serve as president, a person must be native born. The Lou Dobbs, on CNN asked why Obama didn’t produce proof of his eligibility. Lou Dobbs is no longer employed by CNN. Why?Robert Gibbs and Obama make jokes but a lot of people are still wondering why the long form of his birth certificate, his passport, his college records and other documents that could prove his eligibility have been sealed.
Case after case has been dismissed for reasons such as it is not in this jurisdiction etc. The more you read on the Internet the more intriguing the whole issue becomes. Some kooky, but others seriously sensible

Officer Maxwell and his partner Rex.
At the HPD storefront monthly meeting on July 12th, Officer Maxwell explained how his dog, Rex, could locate drugs. It seems if a dog smells a pot of stew, it doesn’t smell stew, it smells potatoes, carrots, celery, meat, onions etc. Officer Maxwell and Rex gave a demonstration of finding drugs. Maxwell had hid some dope before bringing Rex in. Rex is a non aggrressive German shepherd dog with high energy. According to Maxwell, Rex is bi-lingual. He came from Czechoslovakia, but he understands commands in English as well. The dog cost the city $8,000 but on his first case Rex discovered two million in dope and another two million in cash. Where does all that dope and money go? The dope is kept at the crime lab until the case is closed. Then it is taken to a special incinerator which burns it up with out releasing the fumes. If the case involves the Feds, the money is given to the Houston Police Dept. otherwise it is sent to the state and usually returned to the city. Cont. page 4
Maxwell has been called to the Almeda area a couple of times when narcotic officers need Rex’s help to check out a car or a house after serving a warrant. This area is where he first worked when he became an officer in 1984. He got into narcotics in 1989 and worked at the airport. He tells his ex partner that they upgraded him when he got Rex for a partner. Maxwell says, “The only reason they need me is because Rex can’t drive or answer the telephone.”
Rex loves his job. Every time he locates some dope he gets his toy and enjoys a game of tug of war with Maxwell until ordered to lay the bundle of rope down. It’s a game they have played for four years and hopefully they will play until Rex retires. Usually a dog retires after working ten years.
For those concerned about the drugs in their neighborhood, Griff said to call the Narcotics Tip Line at 713 466-3673 or (713) 4no dope, also Sergeant Baker with the tactical unit at 713-314-3900 at the Southwest Station on Beechnut.

Georg Farland
Arcola City
Manager

George Farland proved to be invaluable on his first project for the city. He analyzed Arcola’s $4million loan and $500,000 grant and the income Arcola would receive in water payments. When he showed the mayor and city council his figures, they realized in order to pay that four million back they would have to charge every household $170 per month. The majority of citizens could not afford that, and it would push the city into bankruptcy.
Farland has considerable experience in finances and as a manager in water and waste water systems. He believes the water system is the key to Arcola’s survival and growth. There are 400 private water wells between 40 - 80 feet deep. Many people buy safe drinking water.
Right now finances are tight. Fort Bend County reduced the appraisal value of property through out the county. The appraised value of property in Arcola was reduced from $73 million to $63 million. Multiply $10 million by 95 cents per hundred and you have a reduction of $95,000 income for the city. The poor economy last year resulted in 50% loss in sales tax and another 25% loss this year. Farland agrees with the mayor a reserve in funds for the city is needed to meet the bills beyond two or three months. Arcola’s budget is $1.4 million a year.
A bright light in all of this is that Farland, the Mayor, and the bookkeeper have worked together on getting a rate of 5 1/2 cents per KWh. Electricity is a major expense for Arcola to operate the sewage treatment plant, lift stations, city hall and some street lights. Other expenses include six full time police officers, two maintenance employees, two municipal clerks, a bookkeeper and a secretary. The mayor is not a salaried employee but she is at work everyday and constantly on duty.
Farland’s services are on a contract basis. Usually less than 40 hours a week. He has a good working relationship with USDA and the Texas Water Development Board.
They have faith in him. He has worked for several MUD organizations and the city of Kendleton. Farland says, “His reputation is foremost in his mind”
Right now he is happy to work for Arcola “I like working for Mayor Anderson. Her heart, mind and intentions are in the right place. She has a great vision for the city.”
Farland, who left New Jersey, came to the Houston area in 1984. The friendliness of the people made him want to stay. He and Jackie, his wife of 41 years, live in Sugarland and are members of Grand Parkway Baptist. Parents of two grown children, they keep young by caring for two grandsons. Farland takes the boys camping, fishing and crabbing. He also taught the 11 and 12 year-old boys to cook. When he had a hip replacement they fixed his breakfast. They think he is invaluable too.

CORRECTION
The best way to find out if people read Our News is to make a mistake. The article about the Arcola Feed Trade Day was held June 5th not July 5th. I apologize for any inconvenience caused by the misprint.
Also Mayor Anderson organized the events that took place on July 4th.
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
An anonymous reader wanted to wish our local cigar smoking, gun toting Wyatt Earp a 70th Happy Birthday on July 7th. This gentlemen is one of the best when it comes to finding mistakes in Our News. He is also partly responsible for keeping Our News coming your way.
In 1994, Cotton Andrews gave me $100 and said, “When this is gone, you forget about publishing a paper.”
Thanks to the ads our birthday friend put in Our News, that $100 didn’t run out.
I hope “Wyatt” had a happy birthday and will have a happy year. Thanks for your part as Our News celebrates its 16th year.

What are you doing today Joe? “Nothing,” replied Joe. That is what you did yesterday, said Moe. Joe replied, “True but I didn’t get finished.”
RIDDLE
The 22nd and the 24th president of the United States had the same mother and the same father but were not brothers. How is this possible?
CLEANING TIP
After my car got caught in the heavy rain and all the dirt washed off, I could see a black sticky mark on it. I got a little dab of peanut butter and rubbed that black off easily. Then I noticed tiny scratches. That peanut butter made them disappear. It also will get gum out of a kid’s hair and remove glued on tags.

IT IS THE LAW
If a police or emergency vehicle is on the side of the road with lights flashing it is the law to move over into the next lane if possible, otherwise slow down to 20 miles per hour less than the speed limit.
Almeda Moe
Moe’s rich cousin Bob, a 70-year-old, extremely wealthy widower, shows up at the Almeda Country Club with a breathtakingly beautiful and very sexy 25-year-old tall, tan and terrific "hoochie-mamma" who knocks everyone's socks off with her youthful sex appeal and charm. She hangs over Bob's arm and listens intently to his every word. His buddies at the club are all amazed. At the very first chance, they corner him and ask, 'Bob, how'd you get the trophy girlfriend?' Bob replies, 'Girlfriend? She's my wife!' They are knocked over, but continue to ask. 'So, how'd you persuade her to marry you?' 'I lied about my age', Bob replies. 'You told her you were only 50?' Bob smiles and says, 'No, I told her I was 90.' ' Moe asked his wife where she wanted to go for their anniversary. She smiled and said somewhere I haven’t been in a long time. Moe suggested the kitchen. The fight started

SEX SLAVES IN AMERICA
An estimated 100,000 underage girls most of them American citizens are exploited through commercial sex each year. One in five come through Texas. August 20, 2009, Perry signed a bill to give law enforcement more tools to prosecute the pimps and help the victims.
Here in Houston Redeemed Ministries is an organization trying to reach out and help these girls who find themselves trapped. Redeemed Ministries is also trying to educate the public of how these girls get trapped and ways that each person can help. If you suspect. A girl is being enslaved by force, fraud, or coercion (family threaten) then call toll free 1–888-7888. If a girl is seeking help they can call that number or 616-712-1213. For more info go to their web site redeemedministries.com
U. S. Representatives Maloney and Smith have introduced H.R. 5575 which will provide law enforcement and prosecutors with more resources to rescue victims , and provide shelter and specialized care for victims on a national scale

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD
I am one of His sheep. I belong to Him because He bought me. The price He paid was high: His life. What a honor, what a privilege to belong to the Creator and ruler of the universe. Why should I ever be worried about anything when nothing can touch me that He doesn’t allow. He might allow me to get hurt especially when I stray from the path, but He is right there to pick up the pieces. And even when He allows pain to come into my life it is only to draw me closer to Him. In His presence is fullness of joy. Psalms 16:11.
And when I die, He says my death is precious in His sight. Psalms 16:15

Candidate—U. S. Representative District 9
: What do you think is the best and the worst pieces of legislation Congress has passed in the last five years. Steve Mueller is the only candidate who responded to that question:
Respect for America’s Fallen Heroes Act – The loved ones of those who have fought and died for our country do not need to be harassed during burial services.
Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act – This bill is important to protect our firearms manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits so that they can continue to provide firearms so that we can protect ourselves.
Troop Appropriation Acts – While I would rather have our troops on our own borders protecting our homeland from terrorist, since they are in harm’s way in the Middle East, we need to fully support them.
The Worst: The “outlawing” of incandescent light bulbs. Our long-time, faithful servant, the incandescent light bulb is being outlawed by 2014 due to “efficiency” standards. This means that the American consumer will no longer have the choice of what type of bulb it would like to purchase. Additionally, today’s main alternative to the safe incandescent light bulb is the CFL – compact florescent, which contains Mercury, a toxic metal. If you break a CFL, you have a hazardous spill. Personally, we have had two CFL’s malfunction. On one, the circuitry in the base blew out and in the other, the bulb got so hot that the glass portion could sway in the melting plastic base! Thank God our house didn’t burn down.
The Financial Bailout Bills – These bills were and are bad because they did not let the free enterprise system do its work. If the federal government would have kept its hands off our economy, those companies that were unsustainable would have failed and then, for no cost at all, the assets and operations of the failed companies would be re-priced by the free markets to an appropriate value and new investors would have bought them. Instead, the federal government has saddled American taxpayers with billions more debt.
Obama Care – The intention of reforming our health care system is certainly valid, but the law that was actually passed has two big problems with it. 1) The law is unconstitutional, 2) The “solution” proposed by the law grows the central government rather than facilitating a local solution. Health care is a personal and local issue and it should remain so. In 1776 we fought a revolution breaking free from an overbearing central government… Ed. Steve survived but his passenger…
Steve Stevens was driving about 40 miles an hour when his jeep hit some loose rock mingled with snow on a highway in California. The jeep flipped and rolled several times down the highway. Steve was knocked unconscious, suffered two cracked ribs and a cracked vertebrae. Benji, his passenger, had seven broken ribs and her arm was torn off.
He thinks Benji might be responsible for protecting his jeep when they hauled him to the hospital. Expensive camera’s, cash, tools—not one single thing was stolen. He had to have everything shipped home and was really touched with how gentle UPS workers lifted Benji and packed her in peanuts. Benji, is a bit unusual but Steve says he is so ornery she is the only one that will put up with him. You’ve heard of women so thin they are just skin and bones. Well forget the skin. Even though Steve mended Benji all up with his hot glue gun, he says he can’t get her into his new jeep. If you happen to see Steve driving around in his blue jeep with a passenger, it is not Benji. No, it is her sister. She is not as pretty, but like Benji she never complains . ( She is a skeleton.)
