HOUSTON WINNER OF ONE MILLION
For the recycling idea of “One Bin For All” Houston has been selected as one of five 2nd place winners to win a million. The city will also receive a $50,000 in-kind grant from IBM.
BECAUSE OF THE SEQUESTER
According to Harry Reid the deaths of seven Marines was because of the sequester. The FAA is eliminating the comptrollers in 240 airports, including Sugarland because of the Sequester. The government is also saving money by eliminating tours of the White House, although their web site says it regrets cutting the tours on March 9th just before a popular time for the students on spring break. But they have to make cuts and the tours cost $74,600 a week. Its all the fault of that nasty sequester!
Thank goodness the government had enough money to pay VP Joe Biden’s hotel bill on his recent tour. His one night stay in London cost $485,388.00 and the one night in Paris cost $585,000.00. That was $70,388. over a million for two of the five days Biden spent on important government business. Don’t know what the trip cost for our president’s recent tour but he promised to work with Congress to give our good friends in Jordan 200 million additional dollars besides the $663.7 million designated. They need more to help care for Syrian refugees. The German weekly Der Spiegel reported the U.S. is training Syrian rebels in Jordan.
When those Syrian rebels overthrow their government they will be so grateful they will give us enough money so our students can tour our White House. You think?
DON'T TRASH OUR TOWN
Carla Mayfield saw a city car at a dump site. They were looking through all the papers etc and were finding names of people that threw their stuff out. A fine will be in order for those they catch. They are now also placing cameras up to even further ID people.

Almeda Moe
Moe’s cousin, Sister Mary Katherine entered the Monastery of Silence. The Priest said, "Sister, this is a silent monastery. You are welcome here as long as you like, but you may not speak until directed to do so. "Sister Mary Katherine lived in the monastery for 5 years before the Priest said to her, "Sister, you have been here for 5 years. You may speak two words."
She said, "Hard bed."
"I'm sorry to hear that," the Priest said, "We will get you a better bed."
Five years later, the Priest called Sister Mary Katherine and said, "You may say another two words. "Cold food," said Sister Mary Katherine. The Priest assured her that the food would be better in the future. On her 15th anniversary at the monastery, the Priest again called Sister Mary Katherine into his office. "You may say two words today." "I quit," said Sister Mary Katherine."It's probably for the best," said the Priest, "You've done nothing but complain since you got here.”

BEWARE
A young black woman knocked on the door and said she needed to check out the electric appliances because the light company had been overcharging. The homeowner said she did not have a problem, the woman insisted on seeing her light bill. She continued to insist on seeing the bill until she heard the click of gun in the background.
Later an elderly woman was robbed by this woman and others who were out of sight but came in when the young woman got into the house.
BENEFITS OF GARDENING
You don’t have to worry about salmonella or e-coli from your home grown vegetables. You get plenty of fresh air, exercise and Vitamin D from the sun. Stress relief. Yanking weeds out of the ground is an excellent way to control your anger. Works a whole lot better than counting to ten.
Gardening is a wonderful resource when your kids are bored and ask “What can I do.” It is amazing how much they can find to occupy themselves when you say “pull weeds.” Kids are much more inclined to eat vegetables if they help to grow them. The vegetables taste better. There is a sense of satisfaction in growing your own food. Something about a tiny seed growing into a plant is…… What word to use? Exhilarating, amazing, wonderful. Especially after you have tried and tried and then succeed!
Gardening can be a time of strengthening family ties. It can also be a time to get away from the kids when they are misbehaving as they will not follow you to the garden. After you garden for a while you can actually save money. A big percent of a person’s paycheck is used for taxes, insurance, gas, stuff you can’t save on. So when you save a dollar of what is left, it is like saving three dollars. If times get really tough, having a garden could prevent your family from going to bed hungry.
Save seed from year to year. I just planted cantaloupe dated 2003 and every seed sprouted. The secret is to keep old seed in the refrigerator or freezer. Just in case the seed is not good, plant a few seeds early enough that you have time to replant.
In April, set out tomato plants if you haven’t already. It is still early enough to plant green beans, mustard, turnip, squash, okra, corn, cucumber and the seed of other plants that like warm weather. Okra, eggplant, squash, zucchini, black-eyed peas will produce all summer long.
Plan now to put in a fall garden. Fall and winter vegetables are always sweeter.
You can always learn more when you garden. It is never the same because the Texas weather is always changing from year to year.
Why use a tiller to work up a garden plot if you can tear the ground up with a Ditch Witch.
Jr. Keyworth fell in love with this one he rented from Parker’s Hardware.
FACTS OR THEORY
Evolution was at first presented as a theory now it is presented as fact. One reason evolution is widely accepted is the way fossil bones are reconstructed. Last month you saw what they used to reconstruct Lucy’s face and how they made the eyes look human even though they had absolutely no evidence.
Don Johanson, the man who discovered Lucy said, “We know from the teeth, the jaw and now the skull fragments we found, that Lucy had an ape-like face.”
Yet the sculptor John Gurche said, “I wanted to get a human soul into this ape-like face, to indicate something about where he was headed.” National Geographic 189(3): 96-117, March, 1996
In time Lucy may go the same way Ramipithicus did. According to Johanson, the theory that Ramipithicus bones were considered the missing link were based on an erroneous reconstruction of the upper jaw.
What evidence was used to reconstructed the following skulls from fragments?
(I may eventually figure out how to get the picture in of two skulls, one looking like a human skull and one like an ape.)
The same fragments! Amazing how different the same evidence can be reconstructed. Kind of like ‘do we want these bones to be an ape or a man’?
We all have been taught that scientist just present the facts. The problem is some scientist base their facts on theory. If no one questions their so called “facts” their theories become accepted as facts.

POLITICS
Very few people will ever match Rodrigo Carreon’s zeal for politics. He recently made a trip to Austin to attend a committee meeting on a bill he was concerned about. He caught a megabus to Austin which cost him $14. Then he walked a few blocks to the Capitol. He had signed up ahead of time and was able to speak and present his views at the hearing.
In a few weeks, the session will be closed so if you would like to see how things are done in Texas go to www.capitol.state.tx.us You can find the bill you are concerned about and when it will be in a committee meeting. The meetings give citizens a chance to voice their opinion.
To catch a megabus go to www.megabus.com or call 1-877-462-6342.The trip can cost as little as $1 on a promotion offer.
SOME WINNERS OF THE STELLA LIEBECK AWARD
Kathleen Robertson of Austin , Texas was awarded $80,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a furniture store. The store owners were surprised by the verdict, considering the running toddler was her own son.
Carl Truman, 19, of Los Angeles , California won $74,000 plus medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Truman didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbor's hubcaps.
Terrence Dickson, of Bristol, PA was leaving a house he had just burglarized by way of the garage. The automatic garage door opener malfunctioned and he could not get the garage door to open. Worse, he couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the garage to the house locked when he pulled it shut. Forced to sit for EIGHT days and survive on a case of Pepsi and a large bag of dry dog food, he sued the homeowner's insurance company claiming undue mental anguish. Amazingly, the jury said the insurance company must pay Dickson $500,000 for his anguish.
Jerry Williams, of Little Rock , Arkansas, was awarded $14,500 plus medical expenses after being bitten on the butt by his next door neighbor's beagle - even though the beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. Williams had climbed over the fence into the yard and repeatedly shot the dog with a pellet gun.
Amber Carson of Lancaster, PA was awarded $113,500 when a jury ordered a restaurant to pay her after she slipped on a spilled soft drink and broke her tailbone. The reason the soft drink was on the floor: Ms. Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument.

Cassidy Hooper born without eyes or nose
"Things always may be hard. But here’s what I think: I don’t need easy, I just need possible.” said 16 year-old Cassidy Hooper, born without eyes or nose. A child like this would be the perfect candidate for abortion in today’s society, especially since her condition is traced to “a rare birth defect that likely occurred during the first two weeks of gestation.”
(Here’s a chilling side note: Had Cassidy been born in Holland, there’s the possibility a “compassionate,” God-playing doctor would have euthanized her at birth.
According to a March 5th report on ABCNews.com, Cassidy “has high hopes for a career in radio broadcasting, despite her physical challenges. . . . She attends The Governor Morehead School in Raleigh, N.C., a residential K-12 school for the blind, but no challenge is too big for her: She runs on the track team and recently qualified for a scholarship to the Charlotte Curling Club.”
She runs on the track team and she’s blind? And she’s into curling, that odd-looking ice sport that most of us only know from the Winter Olympics?
According to her mom, “She’s very outgoing and never met a stranger. Whenever we go anywhere, she says, ‘Put me by the pool and I'll go make friends.’ She loves to talk and is very, very self-confident.” And the first week she started attending the school for the blind in the fifth grade, she said to her mother, “Mom, everyone here is blind, so I'm normal.”
The bad news: GOP "leadership" continues to ignore or, worse, enable this Nanny State racket.
The good news: An independent grassroots revolt outside the Beltway bubble is swelling. Families are taking their children's academic and privacy matters out of the snoopercrats' grip and into their own hands. You can now download a Common Core opt-out/disclosure form to submit to your school district, courtesy of the Truth In American Education group.
Parents caught off guard by the stealthy tracking racket are now mobilizing across the country. Echoing families across the city, Big Apple public advocate Bill de Blasio blasted the tracking database in a letter to government officials, according to the New York Daily News: "I don't want my kids' privacy bought and sold like this." On Wednesday, prompted by parental objections, Oklahoma state representatives unanimously passed House Bill 1989 -- the Student Data Accessibility, Transparency and Accountability Act -- to prohibit the release of confidential student data without the written consent of a student's parent or guardian.
As I noted in last week's column, the national Common Core student database was funded with Obama stimulus money. Grants also came from the liberal Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (which largely underwrote and promoted the top-down Common Core curricular scheme). A division of conservative Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. built the database infrastructure. A nonprofit startup, "inBloom, Inc.," evolved out of the strange-bedfellows partnership to operate the invasive database,

HIS LAST LETTER
Tomas Young, who was shot and paralyzed during an insurgent attack in Sadr City in 2004, five days into his first deployment, penned the letter from his Kansas City, Mo., home, where he's under hospice care.
"I write this letter, my last letter, to you, Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney," Young wrote in the letter published on Truthdig.com. "I write not because I think you grasp the terrible human and moral consequences of your lies, manipulation and thirst for wealth and power. I write this letter because, before my own death, I want to make it clear that I, and hundreds of thousands of my fellow veterans, along with millions of my fellow citizens, along with hundreds of millions more in Iraq and the Middle East, know fully who you are and what you have done. You may evade justice but in our eyes you are each guilty of egregious war crimes, of plunder and, finally, of murder, including the murder of thousands of young Americans—my fellow veterans—whose future you stole."I joined the Army two days after the 9/11 attacks. I joined the Army because our country had been attacked. I wanted to strike back at those who had killed some 3,000 of my fellow citizens. I did not join the Army to go to Iraq, a country that had no part in the September 2001 attacks and did not pose a threat to its neighbors, much less to the United States. I did not join the Army to “liberate” Iraqis or to shut down mythical weapons-of-mass-destruction facilities or to implant what you cynically called “democracy” in Baghdad and the Middle East. I did not join the Army to rebuild Iraq, which at the time you told us could be paid for by Iraq’s oil revenues.
Young believes he was injured fighting the wrong war:
I would not be writing this letter if I had been wounded fighting in Afghanistan against those forces that carried out the attacks of 9/11. Had I been wounded there I would still be miserable because of my physical deterioration and imminent death, but I would at least have the comfort of knowing that my injuries were a consequence of my own decision to defend the country I love. I would not have to lie in my bed, my body filled with painkillers, my life ebbing away, and deal with the fact that hundreds of thousands of human beings, including children, including myself, were sacrificed by you for little more than the greed of oil companies, for your alliance with the oil sheiks in Saudi Arabia, and your insane visions of empire.
