January 2014

Arcola’s K-9 officer Ricardo Juarez bought gifts and passed them out to the Fresno/Arcola Senior Citizens at the Mustang Center in Fresno. He enjoyed giving even more than the Seniors enjoyed receiving.
GLOBAL WARMING
Global warming 18 agencies studying global warming at an estimated cost of $22.2 billion according to Rep. Pete Olson. Only the heads of two of the agencies have agreed to testify before Congress as to how they spend their money. Since Congress is responsible for allocating the federal dollar, why don’t they cut off the funds of the ones that won’t appear? Congress needs to take their responsibility seriously.
LIFE AT CONCEPTION ACT
In response to the 56 million lives that have been aborted since 1973, Rand Paul has introduced the Life at Conception Act which would eliminate abortion on demand. Ask your senator to be a co-sponsor.

FEEDBACK from R. Inmon. I would like to include the wedding anniversary's of the 1950s Almeda gang. Jr & Sherry Keyworth, Dec. 4th 54years; Richard & Jean Inmon, Dec. 9th 53 years; Moon & Brenda Schoppa, Dec. 1st 12 years. Wishing them all well.
Ed. Note About 50 years ago, Jean Inmon, the mother of a baby gave me advice on raising children. I had just corrected one of my four kids. The child ignored me. She said, “You didn’t really mean it.”
“I did mean it,” I replied. Then she explained to me that when I raised the pitch of my voice at the end of the sentence, it didn’t sound like I really meant to be obeyed. Thanks Jean. Your advice has helped tremendously.
Almeda Moe
Moe got fired from his carpenter job, when he told his boss, “I cut this board twice and it is still too short.”
Moe felt so bad about being fired, he went to his favorite watering hole. About 2 am, he headed home and was stopped by an officer, who wanted to know why an old man like him was out so late. Moe said. “I’m going to a lecture about smoking, alcohol abuse, and the effects it has on the human body."
“Really?” replied the officer. “Who is giving that lecture at this time of night?"
Moe groaned, "That would be my wife."
 GOOD FOR YMCA
Community of One Gospel Fest All proceeds generated from the gospel concert benefited the West Orem Family YMCA. According to Kem Redic, Executive Director of the West Orem Family Y,  the event generated nearly $20,000.
South Houston Concerned Citizens Coalition
The coalition hosted their annual community Fall Clean-Up on October 26th. The community clean-up involved de-littering of trash along the major thoroughfares throughout the Hiram Clarke community and the retrieval of spare tires along the open ditches surrounding Dowling Middle School. Overall, the event generated over 35 large bags of trash and over 20 spare tires from area ditches. "I would like to commend the Madison High School JROTC and students from YES Prep-Southwest Campus for reaching out to the Coalition to assist with this community endeavor," states Council Member Green.  "Ms. Linda Scurlock and her team of civic leaders did another outstanding job of organizing this community clean-up."

FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE & DISCARDED
For fifty years, 24 hours a day, every day of every year and then to be thrown out without a word. Seems like that kind of service should have some sort of memorial. Like so many other things in our world today which are discarded without even a word of thanks, my screen door has been relegated to the trash pile.
Actually it is still in the yard. I can’t quite let go of it. It served for too many years keeping millions upon millions of flies and mosquitoes from entering our home and announcing thousands upon thousands of times, with a bang, that a child had ran outside to play.
The kids don’t run anymore and the new storm door with a screen is much nicer and quieter than the old. I’m thankful for the new, but my old screen door deserves a few thoughts of appreciation before it is discarded.
